I have used your book (Above Expectations: My Story) as one of the texts for a class I am teaching in Fieldwork in Child Psychology. My students attend class one day per week, and spend 60 hours over the semester serving as mentors in after school programs for disadvantaged youth. The course is in partnership with Brooklyn College Community Partnership (welcometobccp.org). Your book has served as an inspirational guide and motivator for my students. It has provided them with valuable insight into the minds of the middle and high school students they mentor, the challenges these children face, and the gifts of a caring mentor. I cannot thank you enough for putting into writing your experiences.

I have known Stacey for over 20 years and have always found him to be the consummate professional. Taking charge of any situation, showing great initiative. I wanted to share this powerful quote (referring to the quote “Darkness Fuels the Light”) from S.L. Young. I am always searching for resources, inspiration, wisdom, etc., that will help SCIP'S efforts to reconnect and keep youth connected to their communities. As a kid growing up, Mr. Young was not unlike so many of the kids we work with today and yet he found a way to use education to lift him to a place where he can give back in profound ways. I wrote this particular quote on a classroom dry erase board two weeks ago and the teacher has yet to remove it. I believe there are thousands of kids whom we have had the opportunity to work with who have the potential to be another S. L. Young.

I admire your ability to be so open about your experiences; it is so important for others to hear your story, as there are too many individuals who go through similar difficulties. But with people like you, they don't have to feel as though they are alone and that can be more than enough to save a life.
--- O. Vermane, Washington Journalism and Media Conference (WJMC) Intern

I came to your class wary and nervous that your high energy would mean anxiety for me, and I was right. But it was your encouragement and willingness to listen to everyone that allowed me to push through and create my greatest college successes so far out of my greatest fears. I will always appreciate that.
